Every GPU in the fleet survives a 72-hour burn-in of sustained compute load, memory stress, and thermal cycling, then benchmarks against factory-fresh reference hardware before it's deployed. Cards that fail any stage never enter the fleet. Once deployed, everything is covered by our 99.5% uptime SLA, backed by service credits. Is my data safe on second-life hardware? Yes. GPUs don't retain your data between sessions, and the storage that comes with your instance is never inherited from a previous owner. Drives from decommissioned servers are wiped or destroyed at intake. Your workloads run isolated from other tenants. Full details on our Security & Data Handling page. What happens if a GPU fails mid-run? The fleet is monitored around the clock. If a node degrades, we migrate your workload to a certified spare and credit any affected time per the SLA. Making hardware fail on our bench instead of your training run is the entire point of the certification process. How does billing work? Simple hourly billing per GPU: no egress fees, no reserved-instance lock-in, no surprise line items. Pay for what you use. If you want lower rates, reserved-capacity commitments of 3, 6, or 12 months earn 10–30% off. You're fully subscribed. When can I actually start? New capacity is onboarded from the waitlist in order as hardware clears certification, with reserved-capacity commitments prioritized within each cohort. HygeiaCloud exists to prove that world-class compute doesn't require a single new GPU to leave a factory floor. ## Why Does AI Have a Waste Problem? Global GPU demand is growing faster than any compute market in history. Data centers manufacture and deploy millions of new units annually, each carrying an enormous embodied carbon cost before a single token is generated. Meanwhile, enterprises decommission servers on rigid 3–4 year refresh cycles. Benchmark-passing, certifiable hardware with years of productive life left is shredded, and the cycle starts again. ## Our Approach We partner with enterprise IT departments to acquire and certify servers before they reach the shredder. Every unit is stress-tested, benchmarked against factory-fresh reference hardware, and re-deployed into our fleet with a full uptime SLA. The result: the same A100s and H100s the hyperscalers run but at a fraction of the price, and with none of the manufacturing footprint. We're giving the ones that already exist a second life, and we're looking for partners who want to build that future with us. ## The Opportunity GPU demand is compounding faster than any compute market in history, and nearly all of it is being met with newly manufactured hardware, at enormous capital and carbon cost. Meanwhile, enterprises retire benchmark-passing GPU servers on rigid 3–4 year refresh cycles, and most of that silicon is shredded. HygeiaCloud sits in that gap. We acquire decommissioned enterprise GPUs at a fraction of list price, certify them against factory-fresh reference hardware, and rent them out at rates 40–70% below the hyperscalers. We believe that cost structure gives us a durable advantage. Why Now ## Three Curves Crossing 📈 ### Demand Outrunning Supply AI workloads are growing faster than new fabs can ship silicon. Every certified second-life GPU we deploy is capacity the market is already asking for. Our current fleet is fully subscribed. 🔁 ### A Widening Supply of Retired Hardware The first great wave of AI datacenter buildouts is hitting refresh age. The volume of decommissioned, still-performant GPUs entering the market grows every quarter, and we're positioned at the source. 🌍 ### Sustainability Becoming Procurement Policy Research institutions and enterprises increasingly carry embodied-carbon targets. Circular compute isn't just cheaper. It's becoming the compliant choice. ## What Growing Together Looks Like Growth for us means capacity: acquiring and certifying decommissioned fleets, expanding datacenter footprint, and onboarding the customers already on our waitlist. We work with partners of many kinds: enterprises with hardware to decommission, institutions with workloads to run, and people who want to help the circular compute model scale. However you'd fit in, you're not just joining a cloud company. You're helping prove that the future of compute can be high-performance, commercially sound, and clean at the same time. Second-life hardware doesn't mean second-rate reliability. Every card in the fleet earned its place through a 72-hour burn-in and reference benchmarking, and we stand behind it with credits, not apologies. ## How Uptime Is Measured Uptime is measured per GPU instance over each calendar month, using our fleet monitoring. An instance counts as down for any minute it is unavailable or unable to execute workloads due to a failure of our hardware, network, or facility. Scheduled maintenance announced at least 72 hours in advance (and limited to 4 hours per month) is excluded from the calculation. ## Service Credits If monthly uptime for your instance falls below the commitment, you're entitled to a credit against that instance's monthly charges: Monthly uptimeCredit Below 99.5%10% of monthly charges Below 99.0%25% of monthly charges Below 95.0%50% of monthly charges To claim a credit, email info@hygeiacloud.com within 30 days of the end of the affected month with the instance ID and dates. We check claims against our monitoring and apply approved credits to your next invoice. ## What Happens When Hardware Fails If a GPU degrades or fails, our monitoring flags it, we migrate your workload to a certified spare, and the failed card goes back through the full certification gauntlet before it can serve customers again. You should never be the one who discovers a hardware fault. ## Exclusions The commitment doesn't cover downtime caused by your software or configuration, suspension for breach of the service agreement, or events beyond our reasonable control (force majeure). This page summarizes our standard commitment. For customers with a signed service agreement, that agreement governs. Questions about the SLA before you commit? Ask us directly. We'd rather you interrogate the fine print now than be surprised later. --- ## Security & Data Handling URL: https://www.hygeiacloud.com/security Trust # Security & Data Handling "Second-life hardware" raises fair security questions. Here are our answers, and we welcome harder ones. ## Nothing From a Previous Life Survives Intake Storage that arrives with decommissioned servers never enters our fleet carrying data. At intake, drives are either sanitized in line with NIST SP 800-88 media-sanitization guidelines or physically destroyed. The previous owner's data is gone before a unit is even inventoried for certification. That's a commitment we make to the enterprises we acquire from as much as to the customers we serve. ## Your Data, Your Instance Customer instances run on dedicated GPUs; we don't split a physical GPU across tenants. Instance storage is provisioned clean for you, isolated from other customers, and sanitized when your instance is deprovisioned. GPUs themselves hold no persistent customer data between sessions. ## Network & Operations Tenant traffic is segmented, management interfaces are separated from customer networks, and the fleet is monitored around the clock by the same monitoring that backs our SLA. Host software is kept patched, and access to production systems is limited to the small set of people who operate the fleet. ## Physical Security The fleet and certification lab live in an access-controlled facility in Houston with camera coverage and visitor logging. Hardware moves between intake, lab, and production racks under the same asset-tracking IDs used in certification, so every unit's location and history is accounted for. ## Reporting a Vulnerability If you believe you've found a security issue in our service or website, email info@hygeiacloud.com with the details. We read every report, we'll respond promptly, and we won't pursue good-faith researchers. Running a formal vendor security review? Ours started in a decommissioning bay. Watching a forklift carry out perfectly functional servers destined for the shredder was painful in a way that's hard to describe. One of us had spent a career keeping datacenter hardware alive. The other had spent one squeezing every last drop of performance out of it. Watching that forklift drive away gave us both the same idea. The AI boom has created a supply and waste problem that nobody talks about. As companies race to acquire the latest clusters, they're disposing of older ones that still have years of useful life left. Enterprises are refreshing benchmark-passing hardware on a schedule, not because it's failing, but because something newer exists. That hardware doesn't just disappear. It goes to a shredder, or a landfill, or sits in a warehouse somewhere collecting dust. Someone should stand between the hardware and the shredder. HygeiaCloud is named after Hygieia, the Greek goddess of health, because our focus is on sustainable practices and the circular health of the compute industry. We rescue decommissioned GPU clusters, recertify every unit through rigorous benchmarking, and redeploy them as serious compute infrastructure at a fraction of hyperscaler pricing. We're starting small, a lab in Houston, and we're excited to bring you along for the journey. If you want to run workloads on the first fleet, we'd love to hear from you. ← Back to the blog --- ## The Carbon Bill Arrives Before the First Token URL: https://www.hygeiacloud.com/blog-embodied-carbon Blog · May 20, 2025 · By the HygeiaCloud Team # The Carbon Bill Arrives Before the First Token When people imagine the climate cost of AI, they picture electricity: humming racks, spinning meters, power plants, and lakes getting drained to cool it down. Although this is true, it is only half of the reality. A meaningful share of server’s lifetime emissions is before the machine is even started. Mining, refining, fabrication, assembly and shipping make up a significant share of emissions from servers. Semiconductor fabrication is extraordinarily resource-intensive. ## Why this changes the second-life math This is where most people are wrong about extending the life of an existing server. By delaying the purchase of a new server, you avoid re-paying the embodied carbon-bill that is generated from the manufacturing process. A rescued A100 arrives with its footprint already sunk. Every additional hour it delivers decreases the footprint even further, whereas a new card starts from zero. That’s why ‘reuse before recycle’ is not a slogan for us. It is how we operate. We recover materials through recycling, reuse recovers the whole object, footprint and all. The greenest GPU is, in fact, one that already existed. ← Back to the blog --- ## What We Learned Certifying Our First 100 GPUs URL: https://www.hygeiacloud.com/blog-first-100-gpus Blog · July 24, 2025 · By the HygeiaCloud Team # What We Learned Certifying Our First 100 GPUs One hundred certifications in, our process has stopped being a plan and started being a body of evidence. Some of what we expected held up. Some didn't. In the spirit of building this company in the open, here's the honest version. ## Most enterprise hardware really is fine The core bet, that scheduled decommissioning discards mostly-healthy hardware, survived contact with reality. The large majority of cards that arrive at our lab pass the full gauntlet and benchmark within our reference band. Enterprises run conservative thermals and clean power; it shows. ## The failures cluster where you'd least enjoy finding them The cards that fail rarely fail loudly. The classic pattern is a card that boots fine, runs fine for hours, then throws a single memory error deep into a sustained load: exactly the kind of fault that would silently corrupt a training run. This is why the burn-in is 72 hours and not a quick smoke test. The expensive failures are the patient ones. ## Dust is the real enemy Our most consistent finding is unglamorous: thermal performance on arrival correlates with dust more than with age. Three years of datacenter particulate plus tired thermal paste costs real headroom, and a teardown, clean, and repaste brings most cards back within a degree or two of reference. A shocking amount of "degraded" hardware is just dirty hardware. The next hundred will teach us more. If you want the fleet those hundred cards built, the plans are here. ← Back to the blog --- ## Do Second-Life GPUs Actually Keep Up? URL: https://www.hygeiacloud.com/blog-second-life-benchmarks Blog · September 9, 2025 · By the HygeiaCloud Team # Do Second-Life GPUs Actually Keep Up? It's the first question every skeptical engineer asks us, and it deserves a real answer rather than a vibe: does a GPU that spent three years in someone else's datacenter perform like one fresh out of the box? ## How we measure Every certified card runs our benchmark suite (sustained training throughput, inference latency under load, memory bandwidth, and thermal behavior over multi-hour runs) head-to-head against factory-fresh reference hardware of the same model that we keep specifically for comparison. Not spec sheets: our reference cards, on our benches, same power and cooling. ## What the data shows Silicon doesn't get slower with age: it either works or it doesn't. Cards that pass our gauntlet cluster tightly around reference performance, which is exactly what the physics predicts: transistors don't wear like tires. The components that do age (fans, thermal interfaces, capacitors on the power stages) are precisely the ones we inspect, service, or replace at intake. The honest caveat: an older architecture is an older architecture. A second-life A100 performs like an A100, not like this year's flagship. Our claim was never "old cards magically match new ones." It's that a certified A100 at a fraction of hyperscaler price is the best value in compute for a huge class of workloads. The benchmarks back that up. Skeptical? Good. That's the right default in this market. Ask us for the numbers on the tier you're considering. ← Back to the blog --- ## Choosing Houston: Why We Put the Fleet in Texas URL: https://www.hygeiacloud.com/blog-choosing-houston Blog · November 6, 2025 · By the HygeiaCloud Team # Choosing Houston: Why We Put the Fleet in Texas When you tell people you're building a GPU cloud, they assume Northern Virginia or the Bay Area. We chose Houston, and it wasn't sentimental. It was arithmetic on three constraints that matter more to a circular fleet than to a conventional one. ## Logistics is half our business A conventional cloud takes delivery of new hardware a few times a year. We take delivery constantly: pallets of decommissioned servers moving from enterprise sites to our lab, and certified racks moving out. Houston is one of the great logistics cities in North America: port access, freight corridors in every direction, and a deep bench of industrial space near the airport. Our intake dock matters as much as our server room. ## Power, and the grid's direction of travel Texas has some of the most abundant and competitively priced power in the country, and ERCOT's buildout of wind and solar keeps bending the grid greener. For a company whose whole identity is footprint reduction, siting the fleet where renewable capacity is growing fastest is the consistent choice. ## Close to the hardware Texas is dense with exactly the enterprise and energy-sector datacenters whose refresh cycles feed our supply. Shorter hauls mean cheaper acquisition, less transit damage, and, fittingly, less freight carbon between the shredder we intercept and the rack we redeploy into. 1515 Aldine Meadows Road is home. If you're nearby and want to see the lab, ask. We like showing it off. ← Back to the blog --- ## 2025 Year in Review: From Pallets to Production URL: https://www.hygeiacloud.com/blog-2025-year-in-review Blog · December 18, 2025 · By the HygeiaCloud Team # 2025 Year in Review: From Pallets to Production In March we were two people, an itch, and an empty industrial unit off Aldine Meadows Road. Closing out December, there's a fleet running customer workloads on silicon that was scheduled for a shredder. Not a bad first year for the circular-compute thesis. ## What got built The certification lab came first: benches, burn-in rigs, reference hardware, and the 72-hour gauntlet we've written about. Then the process learned from its first hundred cards. Then the fleet itself: racks of certified A100s and H100s, NVMe storage, 25Gbps networking, and monitoring that watches all of it around the clock. ## What got proven The two claims we needed to prove this year were technical and commercial: that rescued hardware certifies to reference performance, and that someone would trust their workloads to it. Both cleared. Our early customers, research groups and startups who did their diligence hard before signing, are running training and inference on second-life GPUs at a fraction of what the hyperscalers quoted them. The e-waste diverted along the way is tallied on our About page, and watching that number climb has been the most satisfying part of the year. ## What 2026 looks like Demand has outrun us: we ended the year fully subscribed, with a waitlist. The 2026 plan is straightforward: more acquisition partnerships, more lab throughput, more racks, onboarding the waitlist in order. If you want in the queue, tell us what you need. Thanks to everyone who bet on rescued silicon this year. See you in 2026. ← Back to the blog --- ## Fleet Expansion Update: Summer 2026 URL: https://www.hygeiacloud.com/blog-fleet-expansion-update Blog · June 5, 2026 · By the HygeiaCloud Team # Fleet Expansion Update: Summer 2026 Short version: we're full. Every certified GPU in the fleet is spoken for, the waitlist keeps growing, and the most common email we get is some variation of "when can we start?" This post is our answer. ## What's in the pipeline We're in conversations with several enterprise IT teams whose refresh cycles land this summer, which means a new tranche of decommissioned hardware is headed for our certification lab over the coming months. As always, nothing gets announced as capacity until it survives the 72-hour burn-in, so we won't quote counts until the benchmarks are logged. Demand-wise, the pattern is clear: A100s remain the workhorse request, H100 interest is accelerating, and H200 inquiries arrive almost entirely from teams sizing large training runs. If that's you, the earlier we hear about your timeline, the better we can slot you in. ## How onboarding will work New capacity goes to the waitlist in order, with one exception: reserved-capacity commitments (3, 6, or 12 months) get priority within their cohort, since they let us plan acquisitions with confidence. If you're on the waitlist and your needs have changed (more GPUs, a different tier, a harder deadline), send us an update so we're planning around reality. Thanks for the patience, and for betting on second-life compute. The whole point of this model is that capacity grows as fast as good hardware gets rescued, and there's a lot of good hardware out there. ← Back to the blog --- ## Inside Our Certification Lab URL: https://www.hygeiacloud.com/blog-inside-the-certification-lab Blog · June 18, 2026 · By the HygeiaCloud Team # Inside Our Certification Lab: What 72 Hours of Burn-In Looks Like When a pallet of decommissioned servers arrives at our lab, nothing on it is a HygeiaCloud GPU yet. It's a candidate. Roughly speaking, here's the gauntlet between arrival and a slot in the fleet. ## Day 0: Intake and triage Every unit is inventoried, photographed, and given an ID that follows it for life. We pull SMART data and error logs from the previous deployment where available, visually inspect for physical damage, replace thermal interface material, and clean out three years of datacenter dust. Storage from the previous owner never survives intake. Drives are wiped or destroyed before anything else happens. ## Days 1–3: The burn-in Then the abuse starts. For 72 hours, each GPU cycles through sustained full-power compute loads, memory stress patterns designed to surface failing VRAM, and thermal cycling that alternates between full load and idle to shake out marginal solder joints and fans. We're not trying to prove the card works. We're trying to make it fail on our bench instead of on your training run. Cards that throw a single uncorrectable memory error, thermal-throttle below spec, or drift outside reference clocks are pulled. Some get repaired and re-run the full gauntlet from zero; the rest are responsibly recycled for parts. ## Day 3: Benchmark against reference Survivors run our benchmark suite head-to-head against factory-fresh reference hardware of the same model. To pass, a card has to land within a narrow band of reference performance. A second-life GPU that's 15% slower than it should be isn't a bargain; it's a defect. Passing cards get their results logged against their ID, and only then do they join the fleet. That's the deal we make with every customer: the hardware had a first life, but the standards start from zero. ← Back to the blog --- ## Why We Rescue GPUs URL: https://www.hygeiacloud.com/blog-why-we-rescue-gpus Blog · July 2, 2026 · By the HygeiaCloud Team # Why We Rescue GPUs Walk into any enterprise datacenter and you'll find racks of servers with a countdown clock over them. Not because they're failing (most benchmark within a few percent of the day they were installed) but because the refresh cycle says their time is up. Three years, maybe four, and the whole rack is scheduled for "disposition," which in practice usually means a shredder — adding to the tens of millions of tons of electronic waste generated globally every year. Meanwhile, across town, a research lab is rationing GPU hours because compute is the most expensive line in their budget. That mismatch is the entire reason HygeiaCloud exists. ## The waste is the opportunity A datacenter GPU is an extraordinary piece of engineering with a service life far longer than its accounting life. When an enterprise depreciates hardware to zero and clears the racks, the market treats that silicon as worthless. It isn't. It just needs someone willing to test it honestly and stand behind it. That's the trade we make: we acquire hardware the market has written off, invest real engineering effort in certifying it, and rent it out at prices that new-build clouds structurally can't match. The discount you see on our pricing page isn't a promotion. It's the gap between what the hardware cost us and what it costs everyone else. ## Second life, first-rate standards The obvious question is whether rescued hardware can be trusted. We think the answer is a certification process strict enough that the question stops mattering. Every card in our fleet survives a 72-hour burn-in and benchmarks against factory-fresh reference hardware before it earns a slot. (We wrote up what that looks like in a separate post.) Every GPU we redeploy is one that doesn't get shredded, and one that doesn't need to be manufactured. That's the whole model: high performance, low waste, honest pricing. ← Back to the blog
